Keira Knightley-Never Let Me Go

Never Let Me Go

Never Let Me Go is a 2010 British dystopian drama film based on the 2005 novel of the same name written by Kazuo Ishiguro. The movie was directed by Mark Romanek from a screenplay written by Alex Garland. It stars Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley and Andrew Garfield. Never Let Me Go centers on Kathy, Ruth and Tommy, played respectively by Mulligan, Knightley and Garfield, who become entangled in a love triangle and are scientific specimens, created in a laboratory and raised in order to provide their organs to severely ill patients. Principal photography began in April 2009, lasting a few weeks, and filmed at various locations, including Andrew Melville Hall. Made on a $15 million budget, Never Let Me Go was produced by DNA Films and Film4.
Prior to the book's publication, Garland had approached the movie's producers, Andrew Macdonald and Andrew Reich, about a possible movie, and wrote the film a ninety-six page script. While initially having trouble finding an actress to play Kathy, Mulligan was cast in the role after Peter Rice, who is the head of the company financing the film, recommended her while watching her performance in An Education. A fan of the book, Mulligan ecstatically accepted the role, having hoped to play that specific character if a film adaptation were to ever be made of the book, years before. The movie's message and themes were the factors that attracted Garfield to become a part of the film.

Never Let Me Go premiered at the 37th annual Telluride Film Festival in September 2010, where the audience positively responded to its message. The movie has since been screened at a number of festivals, including the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival as well as opening the 54th London Film Festival. It was distributed theatrically by Fox Searchlight Pictures in the United States on 15 September 2010, where it was given a limited release. Other release dates for the movie include a 14 January 2011, date for the United Kingdom. In the US, playing at four theatres, Never Let Me Go grossed over $111,000 in its opening weekend. As the number of theaters it played at began to expand, it continued to make more money each week, going to earn over $800,000 in total in the United States. Never Let Me Go was met with mixed reviews from film critics, with most reviewers generally praising the cast's overall performances.

Kathy (Mulligan), Tommy (Garfield) and Ruth (Knightley) live in a world and a time that feel familiar to us, but is not quite like anything we know. They spend their childhood at Hailsham, a seemingly idyllic English boarding school. When they leave the shelter of the school and the terrible truth of their fate is revealed to them, they must also confront their deep feelings of love, jealousy and betrayal that threaten to pull them apart.
The film is narrated by 28-year-old Kathy H. as she reminisces about her childhood at Hailsham, as well as her adult life after leaving the school. The story takes place in a dystopian Britain, in which human beings are cloned to provide donor organs for transplants. Kathy and her classmates have been created to be donors, though the adult Kathy is temporarily working as a "carer", someone who supports and comforts donors as they are made to give up their organs and, eventually, submit to death. As in Ishiguro’s other works, the truth of the matter is made clear only gradually, via veiled but suggestive language and situations.
The film is divided into multiple parts, chronicling phases in the lives of its main characters.

In July 2010, Never Let Me Go was screened to film critics, who gave it generally positive reviews, with The Daily Telegraph calling the movie's three leads "brilliant". Never Let Me Go premiered at the 37th annual Telluride Film Festival (TFF), which was presented by the National Film Preserve and began on 3 September 2010, running through Labor Day in a remote Colorado town. The Hollywood Reporter observed that the audience "seemed to respond positively to the film's look at what makes us human and what defines a soul." The film was also a part of the 35th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) line-up during September 2010 and was screened along with 300 other films. According to Deadline Hollywood, Never Let Me Go was originally expected to have its world premiere at the 2010 Venice Film Festival in September, but Fox replaced it with Black Swan, having favored the TIFF rather than Venice, but eventually settled on the Telluride Film Festival.
Never Let Me Go was scheduled for a limited release for select cities in the United States on 1 October 2010, but the date was later moved up to 15 September. The movie will be released in the United Kingdom on 14 January 2011, and on 9 February 2011 it will be released in France. Never Let Me Go was given an R rating for "some sexuality and nudity" by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). As a forum of promotion for the film after its release in September, Mulligan made guest appearances to introduce Never Let Me Go at movie theatre screenings, including at the Landmark Theatres and AMC Loews Lincoln Square. Upon the film's release at the TFF, a writer for the Los Angeles Times called the movie an "Oscar wild card", believing that it's reviews are "likely to be split between those who consider the film a bleak masterpiece and others who find it straining so mightily for aesthetic perfection that it fails to provide a gripping narrative." The Globe and Mail called Never Let Me Go one of 2010's "big noise" films. In the United States, Never Let Me Go will be released on DVD on February 1, 2011.

Request Jamie Freeze to remove offensive dehumanizing headline in her story titled HE/SHE/IT

41% of all Transgender people attempt suicide at one time or another in their life. We need to try and help bring that number down. Life, in general, is very difficult for transgender humans. They have to face ridicule, discrimination, unemployment, homelessness and sometimes just having no hope whatsoever.

The last thing someone in such a vulnerable community needs to see is to be referred to as "It". This is by far the worst name you can call someone who is transgender. Everyone in the world knows this accept Jamie Freeze, who believe it or not, is a law student.

Please let Jamie Freeze and Renew America know what you think about this.

Save the Yellowstone Bison!

America's last free-roaming wild bison are being slaughtered on a scale not seen since the 1800s. And hundreds more are slated to be killed.

1,600 bison were killed in the winter of 2007/2008 -- more than a quarter of the wild population. This is no way to manage one of the icons of the American West -- especially in a state that prides itself as a destination for wildlife-seeking tourists.

Take action now! Write to the Montana Promotion Division -- the state%u2019s tourism officials -- and speak out for sensible management of these American icons!

Please sign this petition…thank you!

Madhuri's 'We Are Family' moment

It was family time for actress Madhuri Dixit on the sets of 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4' as her sons, husband and parents came as audience members on the dance reality show.

Her sons - Arin, 7 and Ryan, 5 - and husband Shriram Nene are here for their Christmas and New Year's break and seemed thrilled to see Madhuri in the judge's chair on the show.

When the children were asked whether they liked their mother's show, one of them replied: "It is good", while Shriram said it was a great experience.

Madhuri had left her children with her husband in the US before she came here for a three-month break from household chores to make a comeback to showbiz. She has also shot for an advertisement during her stay and plans to go through some scripts as well.

The episode featuring Madhuri and her family will be aired January 3.

Happy New Year! :D

Wish you guys a very happy & fabulous 2011! May you achieve all your goals & touch your dreams. Have loads of fun & stay positive!

And I so have the urge to drink the bottle of whiskey just how heroes drink in Indian movies. They manage to do the impossible. I really want to know who came up with this ridiculous idea, but nevertheless it’s very tempting.

I think 2011 is just the right year to try out all the crazy things. But I guess any time is right to try out things that make us sink into the depths beyond vision.

Stay happy & make the most of the coming year!

Dia & Zayed: Our film will be about love & heart

Dia Mirza and Zayed Khan have confirmed that they are turning producers with their first film all set to go on floors in the month of February. They would be joined by Sahil Sangha who is not just a co-producer in their production house 'Born Free' but would also be directing their first film.

Between Dia Mirza and Zayed Khan, they have done close to 50 odd films. No wonder, now that they are stepping into production and that too as partners, they understand what to do and especially what not to do.

"I think what is very important is that when you are making a production house, you get an opportunity to correct things that you found were wrong when you worked in other films," says Dia, "One has to have very strong ethos of the company. There has to be a lot of passion and love involved and your first film should be indicative of that. That's pretty much the reason why our first film will also be about matters of love and heart. There couldn't have been any other subject after all."

While the matters of the heart rule here, Sahil has the final word about this unique association that brings him together with Dia and Zayed.

"The most important part about 'Born Free' is that Dia, Zayed as well as I are very comfortable in each other's company," he says with a smile, "We don't hold back on any thoughts that we may have for or against something that one of us may have thought. We can express ourselves well and we know that we can work together. There is this very good synergy which we can find between us that will keep 'Born Free' alive in years to come."

Hrithik Roshan: 2010 has been my year

The actor differs in his estimation of 2010 as far as his career is concerned. According to Hrithik Roshan, the year 2010 has been one of the best years of his career. Says the actor, "I believe it's been more my year than any of the previous years. I've gone beyond anything that I've done in the past. KITES has been my most subtle work. After GUZAARISH I am on a high. I didn't feel this way after JODHAA AKBAR or KOI MIL GAYA or KRRISH. God would punish me and I'd feel ashamed if I didn't feel 100 per cent happiness".

Meet Priyanka's 1st husband - Neil Nitin Mukesh

As the promos and first look of Saath Khoon Maaf has hit television and big screens, people are really looking forward to yet another quirky love story (stories in this case) from the man himself - Vishal Bharadwaj. Along with showcasing an all new aspect of Priyanka Chopra, the film also showcases a rather interesting look of the otherwise chocolate boy Neil Nitin Mukesh.

Neil has taken his look to an all new level as he plays Priyanka's first and of course youngest husband and essays the role of an army major - Major Rodriques. He is seen sporting the narrow brim Fedora hat, sharp suits, pointed shoes and aviators. This is the first time he has been seen in such a structured and classy look. It also is the first time he will be seen with a moustache.

A source close to Neil reveals his preparation for the character. "After Neil was briefed about the character and the look by Vishal Bharadwaj, Neil visited his uncle who is a retired army major general. Neil is known to be someone who focuses on getting under the skin of the character from by learning experiences from real life references. His uncle was very excited about Neil playing an army major. He sat Neil down and took him through the life of an army man thereby justifying why they are the way they are. He also told Neil about the habits, attire choices and attitude of an army man which helped him immensely to get inside the mind of Major Rodrigues".

A production insider reveals that, "When Neil and Vishal sat down to discuss the look, they were both on the same page as far as personifying the character via his body language, style, voicing and dialogues were concerned. They both envisioned Major Rodrigues as someone who is extremely well spoken and strong along with being hot headed."

Malaika & Madhuri on the Sets of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa

I really like this lady & she's so simple.

I had no idea that I would change my mind about Malaika...I don't find her sexy anymore.

This is the woman who plays ugly Betty in Hindi version on TV.

Over all, I know these aren't very nice pics.

Last Christmas project posted for the year....

Wow!! We're almost to the year 2011! Unbelievable!!! So here is one last post showing you one more Christmas card along with a set of to/from tags. For my card, I used #3058 Jolly Tilda from Magnolia-licious along with the presents which are also a Magnolia stamp but I can't find them in stock right now. If you're interested, please be sure and ask Diana about them. Tilda and the presents are colored with Copic markers, and then I fussy cut and popped them up off the card base for lots of dimension.  You might be able to tell a little better with the next pic.

The background papers are from Nitwit Collections, and the cardstock is Bazzill. I know it almost looks black, but it's a dark green color. The flowers are from Wild Orchid Crafts and I used some Angel Wings Shimmerz on them. The bow is made from May Arts silk ribbon of course and I believe the charm is from the Charm Barn.

Here is a set of to/from tags I made using #3070 Sitting Angel Tilda from the Merry Christmas 2010 collection from Magnolia-licious. Again, it doesn't look like she's in stock right now, but please check with Diana if you are interested.  The box is just a standard jewelry box that I decorated to match the tags. That's it for me today. Tomorrow I will have my project for the Magnolia-licious Design Team Sketch Challenge, so I hope you check back for that!

Have a safe and Happy New Year everyone! Thank you for another fabulous year of your friendship! I am truly blessed. Thanks so much for stopping by to see me today, and hope to see you in 2011!! Hugs!

Salman spent his birthday with Katrina

Well, they're certainly close enough to have spent his birthday together right here in Dubai. We told you about how Salman, his family and close friends including Sajid Nadiadwala flew into the city to celebrate his birthday on December 27. And when it came to the actual party, Katrina joined the group.

Salman celebrated his birthday at Caramel Restaurant and Lounge with his family and Kat for company. The party went on till 2am.

After that cool party bonding, it does look like all's well once again with Salman and Katrina.

This woman is such an opportunist. One guy leaves her & she goes back to the option she has never closed. And Salman Khan is one idiot. Lately she was even rectifying her stupid statement that she has worked with Akshay in 7 movies & there can’t be any comparison between Akshay & Salman, as she hasn’t worked in so many movies with Salman. She was quite sure about it on the show few days ago when Ranbir didn’t give her a ditch for another woman.

Had it been someone else, I might have said it’s going to be another interesting episode, but I just can’t say this about Salman Khan.

And it’s beyond me that people want to stay in relationship all the time & in this case, Katrina Kaif hides those relationships even better than how cats hide their shit.

"'Tanu Weds Manu' is a lot of fun" - Madhavan

Though Madhavan has done relatively serious films like 'Teen Patti' and '13 B' in the recent past other than a dramatic 'Three Idiots', it is after ages that he is being seen in a romantic comedy - 'Tanu Weds Manu'.

"No, 'Tanu Weds Manu' is very different," said Maddy (as he is fondly called), "The film may be about a romance blooming in a small town but contrary to popular perception, these are people who are quite modern even though their values are pretty much intact."

'Tanu Weds Manu' required the cast and crew of the film to travel extensively right through the Northern part of India.

"It was one journey of my life," smiles Maddy who had a similar travelling experience in 'Three Idiots' as well, "We shot at places like Indore, Lucknow and Kapurthala. It was a very realistic set up. Having said that it was a lot of fun as well, something that I was longing for."

One hopes to have some fun as well when this Aanand L Rai directed film featuring Kangna as Tanu releases all over on 25th February.

Stop Pets From Being Sold To Research Labs

The U.S. Pet Safety and Protection Act would prohibit Class B Dealers — people who make their livings selling animals to the research industry — and unlicensed individuals from selling dogs and cats to research labs. Currently, under the Animal Welfare Act of 1966, these people aren't held accountable for where they obtain their animals.

Passing the Pet Safety and Protection will ensure that stolen pets and animals acquired illegally or unethically won't end up in research facilities. I am writing to ask that you pass the Pet Safety and Protection Act as soon as possible.
